Typical locations for a horror film
Isolated town
- This is a common horror fil location, normally featured at night time. It is usually an old derelict or abandoned house
- Conventional haunted houses mostly involve a tragic accident or brutal fatality to occur within the location which causes it to be haunted.
- They can also be haunted through means such as a curse- which can lead to the house being possessed by a ghost or demon
- This is more conventional in modern day horror films
- This is a location which is a good location for a horror film, as it is realistic to a modern audience relate to the film more.
- These are often isolated and hard to escape from e.g being lost in a distorted in a forest
- These can include forests, mountain, resorts, oceans or space.
Night time
- Many horror films are often set at night. This fits with Levi Strauss’ theory of binary opposition.
- This links to the idea of things going bump in the night or that monsters can hide in the darkness. This concept is derived from peoples’ childhood fears of monsters under the bed or in the cupboard.
